PFA Pushes Franchising as an Export Winner

The Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) has long believed that franchising can be a major contributor to the country’s exporting sector. Guided with this belief the Association has been marketing Philippine franchise brands through a number of programs and activities. These include the promotion of the Philippines as the Franchise Gateway to Asia and the participation in strategic international franchise shows among others. With over 20 franchise brands going international, the Philippines continue to lead in the ASEAN region in terms of number of exported franchise brands. The Association is concerned, however, that our leadership will soon be eclipsed by our neighbors because of their respective government’s generous support in terms of national development and international expansion. With this in mind, PFA made a courtesy call with Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo, Jr., who heads the Trade and Investment Promotions Group (TIPG) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in the hope of strengthening the partnership between PFA and DTI particularly in the area of promoting Philippine franchise brands overseas. The PFA delegation was joined by members of the PFA Board of Trustees and PFA members with overseas operations. Undersecretary Manalo expressed his office’s willingness to extend support in any way it can as he invited PFA to work with the Department in helping regional micro businesses to level up and become globally competitive. As part of efforts to widen its perspective as well as maximize the benefits of franchising to the economy particularly in creating thousands of businesses and millions of jobs, the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) invited leading figures in Philippine business to be members of the PFA Advisory Council. Among the members of the said advisory council is Mr. Joey Concepcion, founding trustee of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship, and the driving force behind Go Negosyo. Recently, members of the PFA Executive Committee recently made a courtesy call with Mr. Joey Concepcion to discuss possible areas of partnership as well as create synergies that will impact positively on the Filipino people. One possible collaboration was a incubation/mentoring program that will help small entrepreneurs grow their business via franchising. PFA also sought the support of Go Negosyo in uniting the Philippine franchise sector in light of heightened competition due to the ASEAN integration and the influx of foreign franchise brands.
